You may have noticed that we don't get crafty very often around here. I love the IDEA of being crafty, but it's a lot harder to find time to prioritize that for me. ...especially because my attempts frequently turn out more like Pinterest-Fails then they do DIY blog post material, ha!But, for once, I got mad crafty! And it turned out just how I had hoped!
I started with an old graphic tee I'd had since college, that was really showing its age. I couldn't bear the thought of throwing it away, despite it's stains and wear, so I held on to it and started trying to think how I could repurpose it.
Enter this free bag from Summerskin. Though I love Summerskin and their fantastic fashionable UPF clothing (check out my review of their fantastic maxi here... it's the only travel dress you'll ever want!), I didn't really want to carry around an advertisement every day.
Cue lightbulb!
I cut the graphic off the tee, and centered it on the bag. I pinned it down and hand-stitched it on while watching TV. It only took about two episodes of Downton Abbey to get it done, but if you have a sewing machine this project will be done in a jiffy! I daresay you could even use fabric glue for equivalent results in the blink of an eye, but I didn't want to risk distorting my Mighty Mouse and I don't mind sewing, so I opted for the longer route.

My Mighty Mouse gets a second life post shirt-hood, and I get bonus points for being crafty and reusing / recycling. Win!! ;P
Easiest DIY ever.
I have a Wonder Woman shirt that's going to need a reincarnation soon too... anybody got another cool idea for what her second life should be??
PS: A quick note while I'm thinking about it, for if you do use fabric glue... make sure to test it on some similar fabric you're not invested in beforehand. Also, when you glue the actual image onto the tote bag, stick some cardboard inside the bag so you don't, you know, glue it shut... I may or may not speak from previous experience.

It's so funny, I saw this post on a link party and almost clicked on it, but got distracted and didn't. i NEVER would have suspected it was yours, though! :P I took all my old t-shirts from high school and turned them into a double-sided quilt. I have plans to do the same with all my old skating competition sweatshirts, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. :D

DeleteOh wow how fab! Love this idea! I have tons of old baby clothes that I can't bear to throw away. I plan on making a patchwork quilt with them. So how about a Wonder Woman cushion? You could do the same sort of idea to the bag? Oh and you're totally speaking from experience re the glue incident right?!
